Attention: 7-8th Grade Choir, 8th Grade Intermediate Band, High Schoo Band, & Mixed Chorus

Hello! I hope that everyone is having a great summer vacation! The beginning of school is getting closer! It is time to start thinking of what’s to come!

As most of you know, I am expecting our second son around August 8th! We are very excited! There will not be many changes in our schedule because of this. I am only planning to be gone about 6 weeks, which does not throw many things out of “whack.” You will still be rehearsing everyday, and I am making arrange to have performing tests to keep you on your toes!

If you have any questions, please ask!

APCS 7th and 8th Grade Beginning Choir:
Hello! I hope that everyone is having a great summer vacation! The beginning of school is getting closer! It is time to start thinking of what’s to come!
Beginning choir uniform:
This is as straight forward as I can get our concert uniform policy. Please realize that the choir students do not have to buy a blazer and what I ask of the choir uniform is very basic. But, I expect it to be done. Yes, it does require that students or parents are going to have to spend a little time ordering a shirt and a tie, but to make our students look presentable, it is worth it. We will have a small selection of used shirts up for sale. If there is no possible way that you can afford the uniform, you need to speak to me BEFORE OCTOBER 1ST!!! Otherwise, it is assumed you will have the uniform ready to go by November 15th.

All-Region auditions:
Welcome to the big time! All-Region auditions are a great event to be involved with as a choir student! First off: all 8th grade students will be REQUIRED to audition and 7th graders are highly encouraged.

Region auditions are when you prepare several pieces of music and then perform them in front a panel of judges behind a curtain. We are part of the central region which includes Pulaski County schools, Cabot, Searcy and others. We are one of the biggest regions, therefore, one of the most competitive! Students who do well at the audition are selected to participate in the region honor clinic in November, where you will rehearse and perform a concert with other students from other schools. You will be part of the Junior high division of the auditions. It is an honor to be selected and a great thing to start putting on that college application!

Students who are interested/required to audition will need to buy their own music. It is required by the ACDA, that students use real music (not photocopied), when they enter into the audition room. When you purchase the music for auditions, it will be your music to keep, not the schools! Music money will be due by September 10th. Music is $8 per student.

We will have a lot of non-school hour practices to prepare for this audition. More information about these will come later.

8th grade/Intermediate Band Letter

All-Region auditions:
Welcome to the big time! This will be your first year to participate in region auditions! Well, truthfully, you will be required! Region auditions are when you prepare pieces and scales to audition for an honor band containing the best of the region. Our region consists of North Little Rock and Pulaski County schools and you will be at the junior high level. Junior high level is mostly 7th-9th grade students. After auditioning, if you are selected to the honor band, you will later participate in a clinic with the other students selected. At the clinic, the students rehearse together and then perform a concert. It is an honor to be selected and a great thing to start putting on your college application!

There are two different types of region auditions available: Jazz Region Honor Band and Concert Honor Band. Lots of you will be auditioning for both, while some of you will be only auditioning for one. The Jazz Region Honor Band consists of saxes, trombones, trumpets, pianos, drum set, bass and guitar. Concert Region Honor Band consists of a more tradition concert band setting: flute, clarinet, saxophone, horn, trombone, trumpet, oboe, bassoon, tuba and percussion.

Most of the region music for the Concert band auditions is already available. You will be receiving your audition music for concert band auditions when school starts. Jazz band audition music for the junior high level will be sent to us toward the end of the summer. We will then be able to work on this music as a class. Last year’s music was a lot of fun! I’m sure it will be again!

I know this was a lot of information squished into a couple of paragraphs, if you have any more questions, feel free to email or call me!

All-Region Auditions:
Most of you know that you are required to audition for the region honor choirs, but for those who are new: surprise! J It’s a great experience and gets the year going. Music must be purchased in order to audition because it is against the rules (and law) to have photocopied music for the audition. Music this year is $12. This money covers your music and a little bit of the shipping.

We will have a LOT of extra practices to prepare for this event. The majority of the extra practices will be required because that’s how well I want you to do at this audition and also because I don’t believe in wasting money. The audition dates are below. If you are selected for one of the honor choirs, it makes for a GREAT thing to put on your college application!

Materials needed for class:
· BLACK 3 RING BINDER for music!
· Pencils
· Recordable CDs for practice CDs (probably 4 cds for the year)
