Amendment to Tardy Policy

Purposed amendment to page 5 of the 2010 – 2011 APCS Student Handbook, below is the change in red and the old policy crossed out.

TARDIES
The first hour of the day sets the tone for the student’s entire day. Students who are tardy feel “Behind” from the beginning, and may be off-sync the entire day. Students should arrive in time to get into their classroom before 8:00 A.M. Students who are regularly late to school or class show disregard for both the teacher and classmates and compromise potential student achievement. Students who are late must report to the principal’s office for a pass. Frequent tardies result in students missing vital information presented during the first period class. Frequent tardiness interferes with teaching and learning and is not acceptable.

Checking out of school early is equal to one tardy and will accumulate as a tardy.

Consequence:

When a student accumulates 3 tardies or early check outs Saturday school one hour of after school detention will be assigned. If the student does not attend Saturday school one hour of after school detention, one day school suspension will result. At least one day’s notice will be given to the parents regarding the detention.

Also, FYI an Excused tardy doesn’t not count against a child – it is no longer a tardy if it is excused.
