Student Drop Off

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Dropping off students and picking them up in the Community Center Parking Lot has become a problem. Academics Plus traffic is causing problems for the community center. Our traffic many times blocks community center patrons from coming into the parking lot and we sometimes fill up the parking lot where there is nowhere for patrons to park. With so much traffic in the parking lot it has also become a safety hazard.

Therefore, please do not use the front community center parking lot for dropping off or picking up students. The preferred method is to drop off and pick up through our on campus procedures. You may also park at the back parking lot of the community center if you prefer.

When we return on January 3rd Maumelle Police Officers will be assisting with traffic management to help the flow of traffic. Please talk with your child to insure they know where he/she will be picked up in the future.

• The Academics Plus PTO is selling Hoodies, Sweatshirts and T-shirts. All pre-orders are due by October 28th. Please send the filled out form and money to any school Teacher or office. We will have a limited number of items available for sale after the deadline and at the Fall Festival but the prices will be higher. The Hoodies and sweatshirt are uniform approved if worn over a collared shirt. The T-shirts are approved for Friday uniforms.

• PTO Meeting this Thursday October 20th at 6:30 pm in the Falcons Nest. Mr. McGill will be joining us to talk about what a Charter School is and answer any questions you may have.

• Fall Festival is November 3rd fro 6 to 8 pm. We still need volunteers especially in the concessions and wristband sales. Please send an e-mail to apcspto@gmail.com if you can help.

The Maumelle City Council is accepting resumes from residents interested in service on the Academics Plus Charter School Board. The appointment is for a three year term ending in May, 2015. Resumes should be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office, 550 Edgewood Drive, Suite 590, Maumelle, Arkansas 72113 no later than 4:00 p.m., November 2, 2011. Applicants will be interviewed by the City Council at their regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Monday, November 7, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. An appointment will be made following the interviews.

Announcements from APCS PTO

The Entertainment Book fundraiser has been extended to September 20th. The money we raise will go to help the school go above state standards and provide an outstanding education to our students. In addition to the activities, clubs, and events we sponsor we are working toward making a new playground and basketball court. We need to raise at least $20,000 more to fully funded the plans for this year. The PTO is a non profit organization made up entirely of volunteers and donations made to us are tax deductible. You can help us by selling the entertainment books for $30 each of which we get half or you can make a one time or recurring donation. Please send in all book money and donations to a teacher or school office by Tuesday the 20th.

Don't forget that Grandparents Day is this Friday September 16th. Have your students Grandparent or special person go the Lobby of the Elementary building at 1:30 pm

Book Fair is also starting on Friday. Look for information to come on this soon.

PTO Fundraiser

The Entertainment Book Fundraiser is coming to a close. If you have sold at least one book please return the Turn-In Envelope with your information filled in on one side and the list of orders you sold on the other side. Place the money you collected for each book inside the envelope and return it to your students Teacher or any school office. After 9/12/11 when the sale ends we will order the books and hopefully have all orders filled by the end of September. If you are unable to sell the one book sent home please return it to the Teacher or office. The money raised will go toward building a new playground and basketball area as well as the many student activities and teacher appreciation events the PTO hosts. As you all know Academics Plus is a public school and no tuition is charged. However to help the school go above and beyond the state standards and allow our children to receive an outstanding education we need to raise additional funds. We receive $15 for each book sold. If every student sells one we will raise around $10,000 which will only get us started on the playground. Please do your best to sell as many books as possible. We will also accept any donation you can give us. The PTO, School and Foundation are all non-profit organizations so your donations are tax deductable.

Below are a few quick information points.

Parents:

Please remember to return any clothes your child has to borrow due to an accident at school. We keep a supply of extra uniforms, socks and undies in my office for these types of occasions but our supply will be diminished if the clothes aren’t returned, and we won’t be able to continue the service.

It makes it really convenient for parents when they don’t have to leave work to bring their child a change of clothes and so we want to be able to continue this.

We need volunteers to help install the new Elementary Playground Saturday September 10th. We will begin at 7:00 am. Please bring any tools that could help with the installation.

• We are looking for a Refrigerator for the staff room in the in Elementary Building. If you have one to donate or can aid us in getting one at a low cost please reply to this e-mail. A note from the school nurse....

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Students at Academics Plus Charter School have contracted chickenpox and your child may have been exposed. Because this virus spreads easily, most children who have never had chickenpox and come into contact with someone who has this illnesses will more than likely become infected. A relatively mild illness can result in the loss of a week or more of class time for a child.

There is a varicella (chickenpox) vaccine available to help prevent chickenpox and it is recommended for persons older than 12 months of age who have never had the disease. If your child has already had this vaccine, it should be on his or her shot record as “varicella”, “VZV”, or “chickenpox.”

Studies have shown that children who have been exposed to chickenpox and are vaccinated within 5 days of exposure are less likely to become sick. If your child has not had chickenpox or has not been vaccinated, we suggest that you contact your child’s regular health-care provider as soon as possible to discuss the use of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine for your child. It is especially vital that parents of children with compromised immune systems (i.e., HIV, cancer, leukemia, organ transplant, etc.) contact their child’s physician immediately.

If your child does develop chickenpox, he/she should be kept from attending school until the rash has scabbed over. This is true even if your child was previously vaccinated. Please help us to protect your child and stop the spread of chickenpox in our school.

• The Elementary is having an Open House starting at 6:30 pm tonight August 11 th in the hallway of the new building. Kindergarten orientation is from 6:00 pm to 6:30

• The High School is having an Open House and 7 th Grade Orientation at 6:00 pm on Friday August 12 th . Meet in the Falcons Nest for a short meeting. Classrooms will be open to visit with Teachers following the meeting.

UNIFORM POLICY/DRESS CODE

UNIFORM POLICY/DRESS CODE

This policy has been designed to uphold a standard that is both non-distracting and easily enforced that ensures a safe and orderly environment and ensures that we prepare our students for the expectations of the business community. Academics Plus Charter School believes standards of school dress can influence pupil behavior and enhance a school’s learning environment. As a result, the uniform policy of Academics Plus Charter School is strictly enforced from 8:00 a.m. when school begins until 3:55 p.m. for Elementary School and 4:10 p.m. for 7th – 12th grades when school ends. This policy will also be enforced at all school sponsored activities. This policy provides school administrators, teachers, and parents with clear expectations regarding acceptable and appropriate apparel and appearance so that rules of dress and discipline can be enforced consistently. All required components must meet the dress code. Students may not “enhance” or add to the required uniform. Uniforms can be ordered through the school website or purchased at Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, JC Penney, Sears, Burlington Coat Factory or other specialty stores.

Students are to come to school neatly groomed and appropriately dressed for all occasions. All clothes should be clean and free of holes and/or tears. Dress code checks will be conducted by each 1st and 2nd period teacher’s classes. Random checks will occur on a regular basis by administrators, staff, and faculty.

This requires limitations to student dress and grooming that could be disruptive to the educational process because they are immodest, disruptive, unsanitary, unsafe, could cause property damage, or are offensive to common standards of decency.

Students are prohibited from wearing, while on the school grounds during the school day and at school-sponsored events, clothing that exposes underwear, buttocks, or the breast of a female. This prohibition does not apply, however to a costume or uniform worn by a student while participating in a school-sponsored activity or event.

Both male and female students are treated equally. The following guidelines will be adhered to for all students in grades K-12.

BELTS

• Belts are required for all garments that have belt loops in grades 3 – 12.

• Black or Brown Belts only. No electronic, design or ornamental belts or belt buckles (spikes, bullets, metals, etc.).

• Shirts MUST BE TUCKED into pants, skirts, shorts or skorts at all times.

COATS, SWEATERS & JACKETS

• Solid Navy blue blazers (This is optional although some sponsors may require the blazers for certain programs such as Choir, Quiz Bowl, etc.).

• Navy Cardigan sweaters (Optional).

• Solid color jackets, coats, hoodies, sweaters or sweatshirts may be worn only in black, navy blue, grey or white.

• Collared shirts must be worn under all coats, sweaters, hoodies, jackets or sweatshirts.

• Logos are allowed if coverable by a driver’s license.

HAIR

• Hair is to be clean, neatly groomed, and styled in a manner that is not distracting. For young men, hair length may not extend past the top part of student’s shirt collar. Students may not dye or paint their hair unnatural colors, such as blue, purple, green or hot pink. It is not to have designs, numbers, or words cut or dyed in it.

HATS

• No hats allowed in the building.

• No headscarves or bandanas in the building.

• No hoodies worn on head in the building.

HEADBANDS AND BOWS

• Headbands, beads, barrettes and bows may be worn (black, gray, navy, silver, gold, khaki or white).

• Up to two thin ribbons or hair feathers may be worn.

JEWELRY

• Earrings may be worn but must consist of one small spherical, conservative stud. Matching earrings must be worn and should fit tightly without extending below the earlobe. Nose, eyebrow, tongue, ear gages or any other body part pierced jewelry is unacceptable for School. The School retains the right to ask that for mentioned jewelry be removed and held in the Administrator’s office until the end of the School day. Upon the second offense, the jewelry may not be returned immediately and will require parental pick-up. Rings, no more than one ring per hand, may be worn as long as the ring is not distracting. These include class rings, purity rings, Masonic rings, etc. One bracelet per arm may be worn.

MAKEUP

• Makeup may be worn as long as it is not excessive.

PANTS

• Twill beige khaki pants worn at the natural waist level.

• Either straight leg, cuffed or flared pants permitted.

• All pants are to be appropriately sized, neither too tight nor oversized.

• Sweatpants or jogging pants are not allowed on campus.

• No blue jeans.

• No pants with holes or tears.

SHAVING

• Students may not wear mustaches or beards and must be cleanly shaven. Sideburns must not extend below the bottom of the ear and may not flare at the bottom.

SHIRTS

• Long or short sleeved collared shirts must be worn in white, navy blue, black or gray

• Approved Academics Plus tee shirts are allowed only on Fridays.

• An undershirt must be worn under the oxford dress shirt and the sleeves, if any, must not extend below the shirt.

• Undershirts must be solid white only

SHOES

• Enclosed primarily black, white or brown shoes are allowed. No multi-colored shoes. No open toe or open heel shoes. All laces must be tied.

• No house shoes, Crocs, chunky heels, Heely’s, sandals, or flip flops.

• Rain boots are permitted during inclement weather.

SKIRTS/SKORTS/SHORTS/JUMPERS

• Twill beige khaki worn at the natural waist level. Deviations from the specified uniform colors are not acceptable. For example, khaki cannot have substitutions of cement, or brown.

• Length: Skirts, skorts, shorts, or jumpers must be no shorter than a dollar bill’s width above the knee (2-5/8 inches).

• All are to be appropriately sized, neither tight nor oversized.

SOCKS

• Solid black, white, brown or navy blue anklets, athletic or knee socks are allowed.

• Appropriate hosiery may be worn. Tights may be worn in solid white, navy blue, brown, black or gray.

• Sunglasses are not permitted to be worn inside the school building unless required by an attending physician.

• All tattoos or body art must be covered while on campus or at school related events.

Extra-curricular activities may require special apparel to be worn at the discretion of the sponsor.

FREE DRESS DAY

Free dress day does not supersede the standard dress code requirements. Students may wear jeans, t-shirts, or other clothing that is clean and conservative. Inappropriate clothing includes but is not limited to: shorts or skirts that are too tight or too short; shirts with bare midriff, spaghetti straps, or low cut shirts; ripped or torn tops or bottoms; hats; clothing with offensive language, pictures, or symbols. Shoes must follow the regular uniform policy. Please be aware that students will be sent home or asked to change if their clothing is considered to be inappropriate or in bad taste.

Administration shall be authorized to appraise any fashion, fad, hair, jewelry or article of clothing deemed inappropriate for school wear or disruptive to the education process or safety of the campus.

"Congratulations to Sarah Baker who won first place and $20 for selling her art at the Starving Artists Restaurant APCS student art show for her painting of a tiger. Congratulations are also in order for two other students, Top Boonroungkaw and Chabala Musonda for tying for second place. Top drew flowers using charcoal and won $10, and Chabala drew a woman's portrait in charcoal and also won $10. A big thank you is extended to Starving Artists Restaurant in Little Rock for hosting this event for Academics Plus Charter School!"

Any prescription medications not picked up will be destroyed, with witnesses.

This letter is to notify you that Academics Plus has outsourced collection of returned checks written to our school. If your check is returned for Insufficient Funds it will be sent back through your bank account electronically by CheckAlert LLC in North Little Rock, AR.

If your check is returned against a Closed Account or for any other reason, you will receive a letter from CheckAlert with payment instructions.

Arkansas law provides for the collection of a returned check fee for any check returned to our bank for any reason. Please do not ask for the fee to be waived. The fee is $28.00 per check. After July 27th the fee will increase to $33.00 per check.

If your check remains unpaid at CheckAlert for a period of forty-five (45) days it will be sent to Sherwood District Court for prosecution under the Arkansas Hot Check law.

Choir Concert/Public Forum Location Change

It has become necessary to change the location of the Choir Concert/Public Forum. The event has been moved from Oasis Church to First United Methodist Church of Maumelle.

The Choir Concert/Public Forum will be held at The First United Methodist Church of Maumelle located at 1201 Edgewood Drive, Maumelle, AR on April 25, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.

The choir concert will begin at 6:30. During the intermission each of the five school board candidates will have five minutes to present their platform/position. After the choir concert the candidates will be available for individual questions and voting will be open to the membership.

Parking is available in the church parking lot and also at the community center near the swimming pool.

The APCS Drama Department Proudly Presents.......

Agatha Christie’s classic English murder mystery, THE MOUSETRAP, this Friday, April 15, at The Summit Church, NLR. The production begins with a dinner at 6:00 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:00 p.m.

THE MOUSETRAP, which opened in London in 1952, is the longest-running play in theatre history. The APCS production will use (courtesy of Samuel French and a grant from the PTO) the official MOUSETRAP sound effects, including the voice of an actor in the original 1952 cast. Period music (1950-53) will be played during dinner and at intermission.

Tickets will go on sale Tuesday in the APCS high-school office; they will also be available Friday night at the door (though, due to limited seating, it is recommended that they be purchased ahead of time). Tickets for adults are $10; tickets for students and children are $5.

Audience members will vote on the murder suspect at intermission. At the end of the show, a drawing from correct answers will be held and a small prize will be awarded.

Playground Equipment Workday

We are looking for volunteers that can help us go and remove the structure, fill in any holes and take it to the school. • Wednesday April 20th the Academics Plus PTO will host its first annual Bowl-a-thon. This event is our spring fundraiser pledge drive. We are raising money to help the school buy equipment for a playground and a new basketball area. Next week we will be kicking off the pledge drive and sending home pledge sheets. Anyone can sign up to bowl as an individual or as a team and try and win some great prizes. In addition to bowling at the event we will also have lots of vendors like Avon, Cookie Lee Jewelry, PartyLite, Premier Jewelry, and hopefully others. There will also be a bake sale and the Music Society will sell Smencils and Beef Jerky. We have lots of door prizes and a raffle as well. We hope everyone will come out and shop your support and have a great time Bowling.

A Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are very excited about the construction of the new elementary building. However some concerns have come forth about our student’s safety. We are experiencing some challenges in traffic flow during drop-off and pick-up times. Please arrive early so students are ready to learn by 8:00 a.m.

For safety reasons – please do not drop off or pick up students on any streets or in locations where they must cross the traffic/streets. If you park on or make a “U” turn on Lake Point Place, you may be issued a citation for “Careless and Prohibited Driving” from the Maumelle Police Department.

Elementary students and anyone eating breakfast - These students will go through the traffic line as they always have. The area for drop-off and pick-up is in the parking lot in front of the (F - blue) building. Enter the parking lot near the Falcon's Nest, but please do not drop them off until you come to the front of the parking lot near the protective shed.

High school students - These students will enter Lake Point Place and circle the (A - beige) building. The drop-off and pick-up area is located between the (A - beige) building and the playground.

When entering our school during drop-off and pick-up times please turn on Lake Point Drive from Edgewood Drive (between First Commercial Bank and the City Center) and then a left on Lake Point Place. If we have a long line of cars, this will allow cars to stack along Lake Point Place between U.S. Pizza and the new tennis courts. This should keep the line from backing up onto Edgewood Drive.

Academics Plus PTO-Family Bowling Night

The Academics Plus PTO is hosting a Family Bowling Night Wednesday April 20th. This event will conclude our spring pledge fundraiser. We are looking for several volunteers to help. If you are interested in any of the items listed below please send an e-mail to apcspto@gmail.com.

• Volunteers to join the planning committee – next meeting is today, Monday March 28th at 6 pm in the A building

• Volunteers to help with passing out pledge sheets and collecting pledges from classrooms

• Volunteers to help set up and clean up at the event.

• Volunteers to request prize donations from local businesses

• Vendors – We plan to have tables where items can be displayed and sold. This is an ideal set up for people who make items to sell or have a home show type business such as Avon or Pampered Chef. There are a limited amount of tables available and they will be filled on a first come first served basis.

This event will also be our April meeting and we will be accepting nominations for the Vice President, Secretary and Parliamentarian PTO Board Positions. If you are interested in any of these positions please send an e-mail to apcspto@gmail.com.

Spring Pictures, March 28th for High School

Dear Membership,

The annual meeting for Pulaski Charter School, Inc. doing business as Academics Plus Charter School will be held on May 9, 2011 at 7:00p.m. in the Falcon’s Nest (School Cafeteria). The primary purpose for the annual meeting will be to finalize the election of the board of trustees.

To vote in the election you must be an eligible voter. An eligible voter is defined as a Member who has completed a voter registration form during the current school year and at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to the annual meeting of the Members. Membership is open to all persons the age of eighteen (18) years or older who are interested in furtherance of the purposes of the Corporation and are one or more of the following:

(a) Any officer of Pulaski Charter School, Inc. (PCS).
(b) Employees of PCS who work at PCS at least thirty-two hours per week.
(c) Trustees of PCS.
(d) Parents, the legal guardians and custodians of a student(s) presently enrolled in a PCS school so long as the parents, legal guardians and custodians are registered with the school as the adult(s) responsible for the students(s).

To determine if you are a registered voter, please visit www.academicsplus.org click on “About Us” click on “Trustee Election” and open “Registered Voters.” If your name is not on the list, please return a copy of the enclosed registration form to school no later than April 11, 2011.

Two of the nine trustee positions will be decided during this year’s election process. If you are interested in becoming a candidate for trustee, please send your Biography to rob.mcgill@academicsplus.org no later than April 5, 2011. Election Process
(1) Membership and Voter Registration
Section 1.10 Member is defined in the Bylaws of Pulaski Charter
chool, Inc. (PCS).
Section 1.11 Voter Registration Forms shall be included with student
enrollment and renewal packages, shall be distributed by U.S. mail to the
Members at the beginning of each school year, and shall be made available
to any Member upon request. Completed Voter Registration Forms shall be
maintained by the PCS Executive Director or his/her designee for three (3)
years after the election.
Section 1.12 Eligible Voter is defined as a Member who has completed
a Voter Registration Form during the current PCS fiscal year and at least
thirty (30) calendar days prior to the annual meeting of the Members. Only
Eligible Voters may cast ballots in the election of PCS Trustees.
(2) Election Committee
Section 2.10 An Election Committee shall be appointed to oversee the
Board of Trustees election each year and to ensure that this Election
Process is properly followed.
Section 2.11 The Election Committee shall consist of five (5) members.
The following four (4) members shall be appointed by the PCS Board of
Trustees during its regular February meeting:
(1) a Chairperson;
(2) a PCS Trustee whose term is not expiring;
(3) a PCS teacher; and
(4) a parent/guardian/custodian of a PCS student.
The Board of Trustees shall offer the position of Election Committee
Chairperson to the PTO Chairperson if in attendance. If the P.T.O.
Chairperson is not in attendance or refuses the appointment, the Board of
Trustees shall appoint another Member who is not an employee or a
Trustee to be the Election Committee Chairperson. The fifth member shall
be appointed by the Maumelle Mayor.
Section 2.12 The Election Committee shall be released from their
duties after the new Board has been seated and all Contesting Election
Petitions have been resolved.
(3) Election Process
Section 3.10 The PCS Election Committee shall adopt an election
schedule prior to the regular March meeting of the Board of Trustees, at
which the Election Committee Chairperson shall present the election
schedule for review and approval by the Board of Trustees. The approved
election schedule shall be posted on the school bulletin board and website
within the following week.
Section 3.11 The election schedule shall include a public forum during
which Members may meet the candidates at least ten (10) but not more
than fifteen (15) days prior to the annual meeting. The voting process shall
begin at this forum.
Section 3.12 The PCS Executive Director or his/her designee shall
provide a list of the Members and a list of Eligible Voters to the Election
Committee no less than fifteen (15) calendar days prior to opening of the
voting process.
Section 3.13 Notices
(a) The PCS Executive Director shall be responsible to ensure that
all notices required pursuant to this Election Process are properly posted.
(b) Notice of the annual meeting of the Members shall be by Daily
Catalyst newsletter, postal mailing, student flyer, and published on the
school’s official web site at least forty-five (45) days prior to the opening of
the voting process.
(c) Electronic notices shall be repeated weekly throughout the
election process.
(d) An additional postal mailing notification shall be sent out at
least ten (10) but no more than fifteen (15) days prior to the opening of the
voting process.
(e) Additional notices may be required at the discretion of the
Election Committee.
(f) Notices shall include, at a minimum,:
1. All procedural deadlines
2. Candidacy requirements or listing of the declared candidates
3. Schedule of proposed election week activities and voting
opportunities (event name, date, time, location)
4. Web address for school election details page
Section 3.14 Candidate biographies shall be published on the school
website and be made available for public viewing at the school at least
fifteen (15) days prior to the opening of the election process, and shall be
made available during the public forum.
Section 3.15 The public forum shall be scheduled to coincide with a
school event such as a concert, dinner, awards ceremony, etc. Each
candidate shall be provided an equal amount of time to address the
Members at the forum.
Section 3.16 The promotion of candidates by the candidate or other
Members is allowed provided that:
1) School instruction is not interrupted and the dropping off and
picking up of students is not hindered;
2) Promotional materials are placed on school grounds only in
approved locations as determined by the PCS Executive Director ensuring
equal access for all candidates;
3) Public campaigning on school property is only allowed prior to the
opening of the voting process at the public forum;
4) No school funds are used for the promotion of individual
candidates.
Section 3.17 Printing of the ballots shall be the responsibility of the
PCS Executive Director. Ballots shall be distributed to the Election
Committee no less than five (5) days prior the opening of the voting
process. The ballots will be on pre-printed forms. Election Committee
Members shall secure the ballots.
Section 3.18 Ballot box. The ballot box will be a dual lock box with one
key allowing access to the ballots and the second key to prevent any ballots
from being entered when not in use. The first key will be maintained by a
Maumelle city official who is not an Election Committee member and the
second key maintained by the members of the Election Committee. The
PCS Executive Director shall not posess any of the ballot box keys. The
ballot box will be supervised by a minimum of two Election Committee
Members during the open voting hours. When voting is not open, the ballot
box will be secured by the PCS Executive Director.
Section 3.19 Polling. The Election Committee shall be responsible for
verifying the eligibility of the voters and ensuring that the roster is properly
signed. When an Eligible Voter arrives to vote, he/she shall be required to
show a government issued photo ID and sign a roster of voters. At this time,
one (1) ballot shall be distributed to the Eligible Voter. The Eligible Voter
shall complete the ballot and place it in the ballot box prior to leaving the
polling area.
Section 3.20 The PCS Executive Director shall encourage the faculty
to schedule evening events during the open voting process to allow more
opportunities to vote. The ballot box shall be escorted to evening events by
a minimum of two Election Committee Members to make voting more
accessible. Anytime the ballot box is escorted from school property the
Election Committee Members shall be responsible for verifying
membership and distributing ballots.
Section 3.21 The PCS Executive Director, in cooperation with the
Election Committee, shall publish a schedule of the voting times during the
week.
Section 3.22 Voting shall officially close at the annual meeting if a
minimum of forty percent (4o%) of Eligible Voters have voted. In the event
that voting does not close at the annual meeting, the Election Committee
shall continue the open voting process until at least forty (40%) of Eligible
Voters have voted. The annual meeting shall be continued and reconvened
each Monday until at least forty (40%) of Eligible Voters have voted, at
which time voting shall officially close.
Section 3.23 Once voting has officially closed, the votes shall be
counted by no fewer than three (3) Election Committee Members. The
results shall be revealed before the close of the annual meeting. The results
shall be posted on the school website within twenty-four (24) hours.
(4) Candidates
Section 4.10 Any Member who is not an employee of PCS may be a
Candidate.
Section 4.11 Candidates, including incumbents, must declare their
candidacy in writing and submit biographies and platform statements to
the Election Committee no less than twenty (20) days prior to the opening
of the voting process in order to be included on the ballot.
Section 4.12 Candidate biographies and platform statements, which
may not exceed one side of an 8.5 x 11 single sheet of paper, shall be
published on the school website and posted in the Daily Catalyst no less
than fifteen (15) days prior to the opening of the voting process. A single
photograph of the candidate may be included but no extra space will be
permitted.
(5) Contesting Election Results
Section 5.10 Members may contest Election results by submitting a
Contesting Election Petition to the Election Committee Chairperson and
the Board of Trustees Chairperson within three (3) business days following
the announcement of election results.
Section 5.11 In order to be considered, the Contesting Election Petition
must:
(a) Be signed by a minimum of 10% of the Eligible Voters; and
(b) State specific reasons for objecting to the posted results.
Section 5.12 If a valid Contesting Election Petition is filed, the Election
Committee shall:
(a) schedule, announce, and hold a community meeting to discuss
the issues within ten (10) business days;
(b) investigate the issues stated in the Contesting Election Petition;
and
(c) adopt and present findings and recommendations to the PCS
Board of Trustees, which may include:
1. a finding of no validity;
2. a finding of validity insignificant to the outcome of the
election, thereby requiring no action; or
3. a finding of validity significant to the outcome of the
election, thereby requiring the results to be set aside and a
new election to be held.
Section 5.13 In the event that the results are set aside, the Election
Committee shall adopt and present an expedited election schedule to the
Board of Trustees for approval. The Board of Trustees seated prior to the
election shall be reseated until a new election is completed.

U.S. Pizza Fundraiser

Tonight is going to be our first ever U.S. Pizza fundraiser. We welcome everyone to show up to U.S. Pizza in Maumelle from 5-9. 15% of all money spent this night will go to the Music department at APCS. The tips the students collect also get donated to the department. We will also have musical performances from the students as well. Please come on out and support us and brings friends!

Falcon Wrestlers

We are so proud of our Falcon wrestlers Jeremy Adams, Mark Andrews, Richard Breckon, Brian Lloyd, and Anthony Ossenfort. They trained hard all season with their dedicated coach Blake Butler These five guys just competed in the 3rd annual AR High School State Wrestling Tournament and ended the 2011 tourney in 14th place out of 20 teams – with just 5 guys competing. Way to go, boys!

Mark Andrews finished his season with a second State Championship medal. He finished on top in the 119 lb weight class.

Brian Lloyd received his third State medal. Seeded 5th, Brian pinned the 3rd seed in the semi-finals and found himself with a 4th place medal in the 125 lb weight class.

Congratulations to these two outstanding wrestlers! We look forward to an amazing year next year as these five Falcon wrestlers maneuver on the mat their senior year.
